In Earth Yoga, we offer multiple classes of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Although the classes are different, you can attend all classes no matter your experience as the teacher will adjust the level. However, if you have never done yoga before, we recommend starting out with an Ashtanga Basics – Led class.
Led (guided) classes are a great way to begin and advance your yoga journey, as nothing can teach you the postures and techniques as well as a teacher who observes you and your body.
Our offer is simple; yoga as a therapeutic system to create steadiness, always in the process of balancing.
Ashtanga Basics Led
We practice the first part of the Ashtanga Primary Series, including sun salutations, Vinyasa and the Ujjayi breathing technique. Meditation is applied to the movements. The focus is on the postures and combining the breath with the postures. In Ashtanga Basics Led, the practitioner will develop physical strength.
Ashtanga Led in Progression
The Led in Progression class includes all the elements from the Ashtanga Basics class but adds a few more layers. Patthabi Jois once said, “if there is too much attention paid to the posture, the quality of breathing will be lost and if there is too much attention paid to the breathing, the quality of the posture will be lost”. In this class, we put more focus into the balance and synchronisation of breath and asana as well as we pay more attention to meditation.
Not all yoga postures will be comfortable the first times (or months or years) that we do them but with time the body and mind will adjust and what was difficult will become second nature. In order to get there, we have to practise. In Full Led, you will learn to stick with something that is difficult and to do it with a calm mind, this entails more asanas, more pranayama techniques and more time for meditation.
Ashtanga Technical Focus
In this class, we work with the first half of the primary series in the Ashtanga tradition. All the classes focus on different technical aspects in order to help you pay attention to the details in each posture. Special emphasis is on how to conduct the postures in a steady and relaxed way in order to benefit from both the strengthening and stretching aspects of the posture.
Is a fluid practice which requires focus. In power hour, we will incorporate a sequence targeting a specific intention and a specific physical focus.
Mysore style is the traditional way of practising Ashtanga yoga.
In contrast to all the other classes that are led, a Mysore class is truly individual where each ppractitionerdo the yoga sequences they are taught in their own tempo.
Everyone can participate in a Mysore practice no matter previous experience as all practitioners are step by step instructed in the different postures, gradually expanding the sequence of postures as the practitioner becomes confident in their current postures.
Mysore classes are ideal to prepare oneself to take the Ashtanga practice out of the shala and whereever you go.
